Online Coaching in 2016

January 4, 2016 6 Comments

I want to share about my coaching goals for this new year. There is a lot of cool things that can be done with online coaching and boy, have I got plans!

My Run Coach Goals

First, there are many benefits to hiring an online coach for your running (and other fitness) goals. Normally we’re less expensive and more readily available via email/text message, etc. However we’re just as capable at providing quality personalized programs and helping you troubleshoot problem areas!

custom training plans

My goals in 2016 to step up my online coaching are listed below. These are a few things I have planned to roll out to new clients starting in March. Existing clients are going to start benefitting from this mid January. Some features will also be available to the new membership community, Run & Thrive Athletes, so check that out and sign-up to be notified when we launch!

Better Form Assessments

New clients will have step-by-step instructions on how to submit two movement videos during the initial assessment period.

your body is unique

Seeing your posture, movement patterns and running form tells me a lot about what your body needs in terms of a training program. For example, if your pelvis tips forward or your knees roll in, I know what stretching and strengthening exercises will help prevent injury and increase your running efficiency.

After coaching others in person, it was difficult to adjust to working with someone across the country whose form and mechanics I couldn’t monitor several times a week during different workouts. I’m very excited to have a process in place that will easily increase the level of personalization I can provide.

New Skills & Drills Videos

All clients will have exclusive access to videos of the warm-ups, cool-downs and cross training exercises I assign. A portion of these videos will also be available to Run & Thrive members. I’ll be rolling these out slowly over the course of the year (as being 6 months pregnant current limits some of my movements).

I loved doing running workout videos in the past (before my camera broke) and am excited to get back to it in 2016. I find there is nothing like a quick and to-the-point video to remind you of the purpose of each part of the workout and help you learn to self-correct your form.

Proven Motivation Strategies

Being a coach, to me, isn’t just about giving you a solid program. It’s also about the mental/emotional encouragement to help you keep a positive, healthy mindset in training and in life. The hardest part of training (when you’re not a full time, professional athlete) is rolling with the resistance that life inevitably brings while not losing site of and excitement for your goal.

By the end of January, I will be using proven motivational strategies (things like a SMART Goals reminders) with every client. Your weekly (or biweekly) coaching emails will remind you of your “next step” and your “big picture” goal.

coach pep talk videos

I’ll also be recording some short, coach’s pep-talk videos on various training topics (mental toughness, inspirational stories, etc) that will be sent out to regularly to clients and Run & Thrive members. These will be fun!

What would you ask a coach?

  • What would your #1 question be if you could chat with a run coach?
  • What is the #1 issue you struggle with in training?
  • What are your running goals for 2016? What is your plan to achieve them?
  • Have you worked with a coach before? If so, what was that experience like?
