Well, I didn’t get in a run today. However, I DID go to my first yoga class! I’m not so sure that it counts as a running substitute. More like a supplement. It reminded me a lot of our strength training routines with the core work and stretches.
It certainly reminded me that I need to put more focus on stretching and core work. I was feeling pretty stiff and shaky, which I don’t like at all.
I was invited to this particular yoga class by my mother-in-law as we’re currently visiting them on vacation in Texas. Most of the other attendees were older and probably retired like my mother-in-law. Our instructor gave patient instructions with lots of modification ideas.
My husband also came along. We were introduced to the instructor at the beginning as guests to the class and marathon runners. She was surprised that we could squat with our heels touching the ground. Good for runners, she said.
I’m not going to sign up for a yoga class anytime soon. On the other hand, I do like a lot of the yoga poses and techniques, and will start to think of stretching as a relaxation exercise, as opposed to a chore. I might do it more often that way.
