Hey there! While I’m focusing my energies on being a new mom, I’ve lined up some great info and inspiration for you. In this Spotlight blog series, I’ve done a little Q&A with some great run coaches and fitness pros. These are multi-talented folks with solid experience, great blogs, and a lot of positive energy online to keep you inspired and informed. So, let’s see who we’ve got this week!
Spotlight: Angela Bekkala
Why did you become a run coach?
I became a run coach because I love running so much. I could talk about it all day, everyday. I wanted to help others reach their goals whether it be a couch to 5k program or to PR in the marathon. I think every BODY can run. You just need to be smart about it. The one thing I enjoy most about coaching is when I hear a client say, “I never knew I could do that!” It’s a confirmation that YES! You can do hard things!
What is one thing runners do all the time that you wish you could fix/stop/change?
The one thing I see runners do all the time that I wish I could change is the need for some runners to say, I ran ONLY 3 miles. Or I ONLY did the half marathon. Running any distance is a big deal. Don’t short change yourself on accomplishing big things.
Favorite running hydration, fuel, and/or gear?
My personal favorite running fuel is Salted Caramel GU. I am a huge fan of anything salted caramel so it’s like eating dessert mid run/race when I get to enjoy it. I never thought I’d say I look forward to eating GU!What kind of fuel was running coach @happyfitmama surprised to love? Find out here! Click To Tweet
What piece of advice do you frequently give to runners?
One piece of advice I frequently have to runners is to not compare yourself to any other runner. The only thing you can control is yourself. Do the best you can do with what you have.
When should runners hire a coach?
Runners should hire a coach to take the guess work out of a training plan. A coach has the knowledge of frequency, intensity and time for each workout. All you need to do is run! It’s a great way to keep yourself on track and accountable yet a coach can adjust your plan as needed if your body isn’t responding to the workouts. A coach provides a more personalized plan that is tailor made for you rather than a cookie cutter plan from a book or online.
