Originally posted in October 2011. At the time I was writing about my quest to run 7 RockNRoll Series races in one year in order to earn a Rock Legend heavy medal.
About a week and a half ago I thought my Rock Legend was lost and many of my friends were sad and upset on my behalf. Well, GOOD NEWS everyone! Competitor Group swooped in and is going to help me make this happen!
How?! The New Years’ Event is still postponed until 2012, yes. However, I had sent my blog link to Competitor and explained my situation. They apparently liked my blog (it is all about their events, after all) and so, as part of their social media program, they’ve offered to pay for my trip to San Antonio to run the half on November 13th!
Are you shocked? I’m shocked. Amazed. Thrilled!
I have been a vocal fan of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and have put my modest attempts at finishing events out here for all to read. It is validating to know that Competitor Group acknowledges and appreciates my patronage and promotion of their events. Not only are they helping to make it possible for me to achieve Rock Legend this year but they’ve proven to be considerate of their faithful runners by allowing the 2011 Heavy Medals to be achieved by running events in the first part of 2012. This is good.
I know there are many folks who are going to be upset about New Years’ Eve being postponed no matter what, and part of me still wishes that event were still happening this year because it seemed like the perfect way to end my running year. However, I am grateful to know now that I’m not “just a number” on registration list that was too short and that the “big business” is paying attention to the individuals who make their jobs possible.
It is also a relief that I can finish the events I have left this year with the same joy and excitement that I had before. I now have a re-re-revised itinerary and new blog header image to go with. I think it looks pretty shnazzy.
