And we’re back to the BlogFest post series introducing the brains behind the most amazing health/fitness/blogger conference. Previously I interviewed Jamie King and Kelli Davis. Today, we’re hearing from Alyse Mason Brill!
Alyse is the co-founder of Fit Approach and Sweat Guru along with her best friend, Jamie King. When I first met Alyse, all I could think was, “Wow. She’s TALL!” Maybe that’s why she’s such a visionary leader? Or maybe she’s just that cool. Read on for a few fun questions and answers from Alyse (and my comments in italics thrown in. 😉
So how do YOU like to SweatPink?
My favorite ways to #sweatpink are yoga, dance, and hiking with my dog! When I can, I also love taking Jamie’s Glider Yoga classes – they leave me so sore afterward!
What was it like when you and Jamie first started FitApproach?
It was so exhilarating to be starting something from scratch, and to have so many potential directions we could take our vision. We invested a lot of time and hustle in getting the brand going, never quite sure what would pay off or not, and just kept throwing spaghetti at the wall until we figured out what stuck. The best part, though, was getting to do it all with my best friend.
That is SO good to hear; that you DIDN’T know exactly which direction to go but kept trying/moving forward anyway. I feel like that a lot right now, but am encouraged to see how successful you’ve been!
What has been one of your BIGGEST challenges in this last year?
Hmm, that’s a tough one. There have been challenges, of course, but nothing that we haven’t been able to figure out a way through or around. If I had to pick one, I’d say it was fundraising – we hit the fundraising circuit for several months last summer and, my oh my that process is soul crushing. It was the only time in my life I wished I were a man – I think it would have all gone down quite differently.
Wow. Don’t get me started on the whole lack-of-support for female entrepreneurs thing. Respect for you!
What is one thing all bloggers should be doing?
Going to BlogFest, of course! 😉 Seriously, though, I really believe in the power of in-person connections, even when you’re building your brand primarily online. It’s a huge part of how we got the Sweat Pink movement started, and there’s nothing quite like meeting people face to face, even if you’ve been internet besties for years.
AGREED! It can be scary to pull back the screen and connect to people in the flesh, no filter, no edits. However, the potential reward in terms of networking is huge.
What are you looking forward to the most at BlogFest 2015?
So many things! Your and Sharp Endurance’s fun run, of course. Hearing from Gabby Reece. I’ve looked up to her since my gawky middle school years.
Well, naturally our #betruBlogFest fun run is gonna rock! Maybe not as much as Gabby Reece but….
What are you most looking forward too in this next year?
BlogFest is a big one, of course! I love any chance we get to meet the community in person, sweat together, and get to know each other better. Biggest thing personally is that I’m pregnant with my first child, due in early 2016. It’s just another reason I’m so grateful to have this active community to motivate and inspire me to be as healthy as possible!
YAY! Congratulations and how super awesome! Baby Brill is going to be so much fun!
