Plane tickets and hotels are booked. You’ve scheduled your IDEA World Sessions. Now what? Get your mind in the game to show up and make the MOST of every opportunity! Here are some things TO DO and to keep in mind while you’re AT BlogFest/IDEA World!
I’m here! I’m overwhelmed! I’m sweaty and tired and hungry!
1: Plan on attending my FUN RUN with Linzie!
Have I not said this enough? Definitely join us for a casual fun run (walkers encouraged). This is a good time to not only meet but also TALK to and starting getting to know the other attendees. You may meet your new best blogger friend!
2: When in doubt, write it down.
A lot of info will be coming at you and by the end, you may have mush for brains. That’s okay!
Just type/write down as much as you can because later, you’ll be GLAD you have more information than less.
Scenario: The speaker is throwing a lot of amazing facts/figures at you. He/She promises to post the powerpoint/presentation online. You think, “Great! I don’t have to write all this down!” 10 days later when you want to quote the speaker in your blog and finally find the powerpoint you realize that THE key AHA! moment you had was from something they SAID, not something on the powerpoint. Ugh.
3: When in doubt, take a photo.
Fun/interesting moments will happen every minute on the minute. If your camera phone has enough storage space, capture as much as you can and sort through it later. When you write about BlogFest you’ll be surprised at what you wish you had taken a photo of verses what you thought was great in the moment.
Scenario: You’re in line for a Showcase workout and some fit gal is walking up and down and folks in the crowd are talking to her. You don’t recognize her but they sure do. Hmm. Snap a photo of her! Later, when you realize she’s the celebrity trainer leading the workout and you’re about 300 people back from the stage, you’ll be glad you got a close-up shot for your workout recap post.
4: Put yourself out there.
Be bold, be brave, be you to the MAX!
Practice your “Hi, I want to meet you” approach. Even if it feels unnatural at first, you’ll never regret having met and talked to more people.
Be present. I say it again because I forget and I like to “stick to MY plans”. Be ready to adjust your schedule when great opportunities to connect with others present themselves.
Scenario: It’s the BlogFest networking party and folks are standing around chatting. You’ve met a few people during but are now standing kind of alone and looking around. You hear a group (that acts like old friends) making plans to go for a real dinner after this, which sounds GREAT! Do you jump in and invite yourself? Yes.
BUT if at the end of the day you don’t have the energy for that, find me and we’ll hang. 😀
5: Try NEW things.
Also goes without saying but, when you’re tired and overwhelmed it’s easy to stay in your comfort zone. Hopefully you’ve picked at least one IDEA World session that is NEW to you. The Expo Hall will also have new fitness equipment, health supplements/foods, and group ex formats. YAY!
If, by the end of it all, you can say that you…
- Tried a new-to-you kind of workout.
- Tried a new-to-you piece of fitness equipment.
- Tried a new-to-you food/supplement.
- Went to a lecture/session on a new-to-you topic or in a new-to-you field.
