Wine & Painting in McMinnville

August 23, 2016 3 Comments

Have you heard of those painting events where you get to enjoy adult beverages while being shown how to create your own work of art? Well here in McMinnville, we have Cup And Easel events with local artist, Amanda Pewonka. I got some girlfriends together to try this for my birthday and am just now getting around to sharing it about it here.  2016-8-19-girlfriends

Cup And Easel events are put on by Amanda of Artist and Chef. She gets local venues to rotate hosting these events, and for this night we were at Grain Station Brew Works. When we arrived and saw all the blank canvasses set up, I got a little giddy. I don’t know much of anything about painting but I love to put brush to canvas. There’s just nothing else quite like it.

Step by step, Amanda showed us what to do with the paint, brushes and canvas to build our tree-lined waterfront landscape. I loved the bold colors and blocky nature of the example painting she had on display.

DYK: You don’t have to drink wine.

Sometimes Cup & Easel events are at a coffee shop or, in our case, a local restaurant that served more than just wine. I was kind of feeling minty so I opted for a Mojito instead. You get a $5 drink credit when you sign up for the event, so basically the first drink is free. Since it was my birthday I had two, plus a huge brownie and ice cream dessert.

Our final paintings were all a little different, but all fun and beautiful. Can you tell which friend majored in painting in college?

It’s great to have a painting from my birthday and the shared memory with friends. Amanda made the class easy and comfortable for everyone. I’d definitely recommend you check her calendar of events when you’re out in McMinnville.

We use to have a “Painting with a Twist” shop near me but they closed down. 🙁 I did get to enjoy two sessions where with help they make me look like a real painter! How great is this? I love my creation! This is so much fun too!

Bummer they closed down. Definitely something I could do regularly. I enjoy it so much.
