About Coach Henness
I spent years being “The Runner” in my social circles. It was no big surprise when friends, and even friends of friends, came to me with all their running questions. If I didn’t have a good answer for them, I made it my job to find out…and so it began. I’ll admit I’m a little addicted to celebrating the accomplishments of other runners and that is what really drives me as a coach – I want to see your running dreams become reality because I know it will change your life!
In 2012, I started my CrossFit instructor training program at CrossFit Surf City in Huntington Beach, CA. This included several months of studying athletic training and practicing group fitness coaching techniques with our head coach before being signed-off to coach classes on my own. In 2013 I passed my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer certification.
In 2013, I got my RRCA Coaching Certification and began working with runners all over the U.S. online. I’ve worked with new runners who aren’t sure they can run a full mile without stopping and I’ve worked with experienced marathoners looking to get faster.
In 2016 I added a NASM Certified Personal Trainer certification to my tool belt. I believe the best way to be a lifelong runner is to incorporate a full body fitness routine. Therefore, I offer comprehensive training plans that include plyometrics, resistance training, and strength training!
Am I going to make you run every day and twice on Saturday? No.
There are a lot of theories on the best way to train for a race. However, theories are only helpful if they actually address your personal training needs. I will draw from all that I know to create a plan that meets your specific needs. As a general rule, for half marathons and above, I include long slow distance runs once a week; building up to 10+ for a half and 20+ for full marathons. Depending on your abilities, I incorporate strength and conditioning exercises as well. There is always at least one rest day.
